This project focuses on empowering adolescents in Kamuli District by addressing the root causes of early pregnancies through education, mentorship, and access to youth-friendly health support services. Recognizing the district’s high adolescent pregnancy rate, the initiative prioritizes values-based interventions such as age-appropriate sexual education, menstrual hygiene management, and life skills development.
EHFCH is working closely with schools, health facilities, parents, and community leaders to create safe, supportive environments for young people, especially girls to grow with dignity and confidence. Key activities include establishing youth-friendly corners in health centers, training educators and health workers, and conducting community dialogues to challenge cultural norms that hinder adolescent development.
Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, with a significant proportion of youth facing unemployment or underemployment. This challenge is acutely felt in the peripheral and rural areas of Jinja, like Budondo. At Eastern Heart for Community Help, we believe the most powerful engine for community development lies within its youth. While Jinja is a city of immense potential, its growth often masks the significant challenges faced by young people in its smaller, underprivileged communities, such as Budondo and other surrounding informal settlements and rural pockets. Here, many bright, eager young individuals lack the practical skills and opportunities needed to secure dignified livelihoods, often leading to disengagement and hindering the region's overall progress.
EHFCH believes that education is one of the most powerful tool for empowering a girl, transforming her life, and uplifting her entire community. In the underprivileged communities of Jinja, particularly in Budondo and its surrounding areas, the dream of completing an education often remains out of reach for many girls. They face interconnected challenges that push them out of school, including the stigma and difficulties of managing menstruation, the financial burden of school fees and materials, and the devastating impact of early pregnancies.
This is why we launched and continue our vital "Girl Stay in School" Initiative since January 2023, and extending through December 2026, and the project continues to be a dedicated effort to dismantle these barriers, ensure girls remain in school, and reclaim their right to a brighter future.Join us in championing our cause.
